A spectroscope splits the sun light into different colors, thereby making it possible to analyze which elements the Sun is made of. When the spectroscope is turned to different stars on the firmament, it is proven that they are built by exactly the same elements as the Sun, which means that our Sun is a star just as the others. With new inventions, and new research techniques, the Sun scientists get more knowledge not only of the Sun's surface, but also of what is happening inside the Sun. It shows that the Sun is not a tranquil orb, but on the contrary is extremely turbulent. The Sun, like every other star, has a core. Almost every star generates nuclear energy, which is transmuting elements from one to another, building up the whole building blocks of the Universe. In the beginning the Universe contains just hydrogen and helium. In 12 billion years the stars transform these simple gases into more complex elements. Our Sun is born from a dying supernova 4,5 billion years ago, while ... Written by Maths Jesperson {maths.jesperson1@comhem.se}

In 1959 the Soviet probe Lunik 2 becomes the first spacecraft ever to hit the Moon. Within a month it is followed by Lunik 3, which takes the first pictures of the dark side of the Moon. Soviet Union had already impressed the world with the Sputniks, the first satellites, and when in 1961 the cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin becomes the first man in space, the Americans are embarrassed. President Kennedy starts a space race by declaring that US is going to land a man on the Moon. They Americans work hard to fulfill this goal, and on July 1969 the astronaut Neil Armstrong becomes the first man ever taking a walk on the Moon. The scientists are eager to research soil and rocks brought back from the Moon. They find out that the Moon is just as old as Earth and is made of the same rock, but has no water. The most accepted theory from now on is that the Moon in the beginning is a part of Earth. When Earth collides violently with another celestial body, a lot of rocks and other stuff are hurled out ... To send space probes to the four giant planets in the outer solar system seemed in the mid-60's impossible. Rocket power could carry a spacecraft no further than Jupiter. But the young student Gary Flandro found out that in 1975-76 all four giants should be on the same line, which happens only every 175th year. This would make it possible to reach all four planets with one flight, using the gravity of each planet to catch the space probe and pitch it off in a new direction at a greater speed. After 10 years of preparation the two spacecrafts Voyager 1 and 2 began in 1977 an incredible journey. To reach Neptun, the 4th of the giants, would take 12 years. The space probes transmitted photos not only from the four planets, but also from their moons. What the astronomers and geologists saw was something they never could have imagined. Not only the four planets, but also all their moons, are worlds that are very different from each other. Many of them are also geological alive, some even ... Earth is a living planet. Volcanic eruptions mean that it is geological alive. Astronomers and geologists wondered for a long time if other planets also are alive. When a series of space probes went to Mars and Venus in the 60's and 70's, the researchers were eager to look at the photos of those planets. They saw gigantic volcanoes and canyons, but these were just remnants of geological activities billions of years ago. Earth seemed to be the only living world in universe. But when the space probe Voyager in 1979 passed the moons of Jupiter something unexpected was seen. The moon Io is covered with volcanoes that are still alive. The explanation for this seems to be the huge gravitational force from Jupiter squeezing Io, thus heating the interior of this moon to incredible temperatures. Jupiter's gravitational force also squeezes the moon Europe, so its ice-cap cracks continuously, causing gigantic geysers of water to squirt 5-10 km upwards. A similar phenomenon was found on Neptune's... Written by Maths Jesperson {maths.jesperson1@comhem.se}

Hawkeye and BJ are increasingly annoyed at Major One-Up and his mania to prove his alleged automatic superiority at every activity, endeavor or exploit. Klinger has a new protege, Corporal Boots Miller, a non-comm who deejays, sings and films with his stirring spoon... and talks to his shoe and sock. Bad news in 4077 Post Op: there is one box of morphine left until tomorrow. But, Nurse Kellye has a GI who had a horrible reaction to some of that last batch and Colonel Potter orders the batch destroyed and suggests a radical form of treatment in lieu of morphine. As Miller acts progressively nuttier, Klinger is the first to tell Col. Potter to give Miller a Section 8; Potter thinks he is in cahoots with Miller until the enemy glider incident. In Post Op, everyone but Chuckles is credibly playing his/her part dispensing the old Doc Schumaker/Potter treatment. Can the mind help cure the body? Is Miller crazy or laughing all the way to the bank? Written by LA-Lawyer
